Dear Scholars,

I hope you all had good internships over the summer, and are looking forward to a hopefully-more-normal university year!
I just wanted to encourage you to consider applying for the Scholar of the Year award (http://www.ukesf.org/universities/scholar-of-the-year-award/<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukesf.org%2Funiversities%2Fscholar-of-the-year-award%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cukesf-scholars%40ecs.soton.ac.uk%7Cccb8279f3db545ba384d08d97462bf3e%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0%7C0%7C637668789718795555%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=EiPf0XXJuAqwy2EtjiUbBtL3zpJLaoRknjBuN6rTPXg%3D&reserved=0>), which I suspect you’ve already been emailed about. Deadline: 31 October 2021.
My understanding is that this typically requires 1) a solid internship performance where your company has been very happy with you, and 2) some good outreach/advocacy activities that you’ve done to help encourage young people to consider degrees/careers in electronics.
ECS has had 7 winners in the last 10 years, and an ECS student has been a winner or runner-up every year except one! Aside from the ‘prizes’ listed on the website, and the obvious benefit to your CV, don’t underestimate the opportunities created by being a finalist and attending the TechWorks award dinner. As well as an expenses paid attendance at the awards ceremony, previous finalists have effectively been headhunted by the numerous CEOs at the event seeing as you’re there as the cream-of-the-cream!

Also, as always, get in touch if you want to find out more about opportunities for outreach activities – as you know, you have to do something in each year you hold a scholarship, and ECS always has things you can get involved in!
Cheers,
