Thanks to those of you that completed the form about helping out with the ‘why electronics’ outreach video 2 months ago – sorry for the delay in moving forward with it, but the team that will be helping with the project were snowed under with the virtual open days. We’re now looking to go ahead with the project.

Dear UKESF scholar,

I hope you and your families are well, and our UKESF placement hasn’t been too disrupted (I know of at least a few that have been). Please keep in touch with Joyce and the UKESF if this is the case, about alternative arrangements.

School/college students have had significant disruption to their studies, and are both missing out on being able to explore potential career paths, but are also becoming increasingly demotivated about those which they were previously engaged with. I’m working on a project to create a ‘why electronics’ video to try and engage the next generation of electronic engineers, made up of lots of short (‘homemade’ lockdown) students clips – if you like, the electronics world’s rather more geeky version of radio 1’s “times like these” live lounge (just with no singing)…

I’d really like to get all of our UKESF Scholars (i.e. you) engaged with this, and make it a joint ECS-UKESF video. It wouldn’t take much of your time at all: you can do it in your own house/room, record using your phone or webcam, and just need to answer a few short (1 sentence reply) questions. We’ll then get all the footage professionally edited together, and you’ll get a chance to look at it and ‘okay’ it before it’s distributed.
