Official statistics increasingly rely on administrative sources: as a complementary source, for margin calibration, or even as a primary source. For the statistician, working with administrative data has an important impact
on statistical production and requires a rethinking of the methodology. However, these data sources are paradoxically relatively unknown : they are often considered "of poor quality" without a clear understanding of the objectives underlying their development.
The purpose of the presentation is to categorize the different types of administrative sources, to explain their properties and characteristics in terms of quality, and to show which stages of the production process they already carry out. Particular emphasis
will be placed on scope, data editing, data semantics and non-response processing. Examples will be given in various areas and in the corresponding literature.
