Public Policy|Southampton (PPS<https://www.southampton.ac.uk/publicpolicy/about/about-us-section-home.page>) is the University of Southampton's knowledge brokerage team which works to enhance the local, sub-national, national and international public policy impact of research conducted at the University. We maintain networks with elected leaders and public officials in order to respond to their evidence needs and provide connectivity for University researchers with policy stakeholders.

We have recently been contacted by the Department for Education's Chief Scientific Advisor's office to scope potential opportunities for use case projects which link government secondary administrative data to develop new or evaluate existing interventions pertinent to the Department of Education (DfE). Data sets in scope are cross Departmental rather than simply from DfE (i.e. could include Ministry of Justice, Home Office, Health etc).

DfE have requested short (one or two paragraphs) outlines which include what is the policy challenge being addressed (i.e. covid education recovery or attainment gaps based on protected characteristics) and which datasets would be applicable to this provide better insight to this challenge. At this stage a focus on methodology deployed should not form a significant part of your use case outline. A full list of DfE's current areas of research interest can be found here<https://www.southampton.ac.uk/publicpolicy/support-for-researchers/gov-areas-of-research-interest/areas-of-research-interest.page> which may be of use in understand what DfE currently thinks is evidence needs are. Please include your full title, any relevant recent publications and contact information in your outline.

The deadline is relatively short as such please send your outlines to g.giles at soton.ac.uk<mailto:g.giles at soton.ac.uk> by COP Thursday 1st July.
