WSI Research Collaboration Stimulus Fund 2021-22
The Web Science Institute<https://www.southampton.ac.uk/wsi/index.page?> has been granted an £80,000 Stimulus Fund<https://www.southampton.ac.uk/wsi/research/research_collaboration_stimulus_fund.page> for 2021-22.

The focus of the Fund this year is on facilitating Knowledge Exchange with non-academic partners.  The Fund aims to stimulate and pump-prime collaborations with business, government, public sector or charitable organisations.  Projects should have an interdisciplinary socio-technical focus in the areas of Web Science, Data Science and/or Human-Centred AI, and offer potential for further collaboration.  Activities may include, for example:



·                  Developing and maturing new technologies, ideas and inventions

·                  Co-creation of innovation

·                  Translation of research

·                  Commercialisation for social good initiatives

·                  Activities which contribute to levelling up and supporting the University's civic agenda

·                  Placements and secondments

·                  CPD and external skills development


Funding:
Successful projects will be awarded funding normally within the range of £5k to £15k. Projects may last up to six months, starting from 1 February 2022.  All expenditure must be completed by 31 July 2022.
Application deadline:     5.00 pm on Friday 7 January 2022
Project criteria:
All funded projects should fulfil the following criteria:

·        Knowledge of and commitment to Web Science, Data Science and/or Human-Centred AI

·        Interdisciplinary collaboration

·        Intrinsic input and contribution from a non-academic partner

·        Potential for impact and future collaboration

We welcome applications from staff in any Faculty at the University of Southampton, particularly those led by Early Career Researchers.
Please see the attached application form, which includes guidelines on submitting proposals and conditions of funding.

Final funding decisions will be made within two weeks of the closing date.
