Dear all,
On Thursday (13 February) at 2pm in 54 / 7033 (7C), we have an S3RI seminar from Irini Moustaki (LSE) on
"Modelling intergenerational exchanges using models for multivariate longitudinal data with latent variables in the presence of zero excess". Details are given below.
The talk will be followed by tea and cake in the staff reading room on level 4 of building 54.
All are welcome!
Best wishes,
Helen
Modelling intergenerational exchanges using models for multivariate longitudinal data with latent variables in the presence of zero excess
Irini Moustaki, London School of Economics
In this talk we will discuss some primary results from the modelling of dyadic data that provide information on intergenerational exchanges in the UK. We will use longitudinal data from three waves of the UK Household Longitudinal Survey, to study and explain associations between exchanges of support from the respondent to their parents and to their children. The data resemble the structure of dyadic data, they are collected across time and they are also multivariate because constructs of interest are measured by multiple indicators. Support is measured by a set of binary indicators of different kinds of help. We propose two different joint models of bidirectional exchanges with support given and support received treated as a multivariate response, and covariances between responses measuring the extent of reciprocation between generations. Moreover, joint modeling of longitudinal data allows for the possibility that reciprocation may occur contemporaneously or may be postponed until the donor is in need of help or the recipient is in a position to give help.
