Dear all

The Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) <https://www.southampton.ac.uk/s3ri/index.page?> is delighted to announce Professor Mark Girolami, Sir Kirby Laing Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Cambridge, as guest speaker at the S3RI Special Seminar on Wednesday 16th October.

Data Centric Engineering: Fact or Fiction

Abstract: Lord Kelvin is attributed to stating that "To Measure is to Know". The role of empirical observation and data has always been core to the engineering sciences. So what does Data Centric Engineering actually mean? Is this yet another bandwagon of hype or is there substance behind the term? This talk will make a case for the adoption of a Statistical Data Centric approach to the Engineering Sciences and associated professions across all sectors.

All are welcome to attend, further details are in the flyer attached.
