Dear all,
On Thursday (7 November) at 2pm in 54 / 10037 (10B), we have an S3RI seminar from Eleni Matechou (University of Kent) on "Modelling phenology using capture-recapture data". Details are given below.
The seminar will also be available via a live web-cast at
https://southampton.cloud.panopto.eu/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=af1da8c1-7065-4e9b-ae65-aafc00bdce27
The talk will be followed by tea and cake in the staff reading room on level 4 of building 54.
All are welcome!
Best wishes,
Helen
Modelling phenology using capture-recapture data
Eleni Matechou, University of Kent
Changes in phenology, that is changes in the timing of cyclic and seasonal phenomena, have been observed for a number of wildlife species in recent years. These changes, generally termed phenological shifts, are often attributed to the warming climate and their effect on population sizes is a matter of great concern. In this talk, I present recently developed Bayesian non-parametric models that can be employed when modelling capture-recapture data to obtain smooth and ecologically meaningful estimates of arrival and departure densities at one or more sites and as functions of environmental covariates.
