[Turing-Southampton] Turing response to Government call for evidence on bias in algorithmic decision making | deadline 5 June

The Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gov.uk%2Fgovernment%2Fgroups%2Fcentre-for-data-ethics-and-innovation-cdei&data=01%7C01%7C%7C56a08d83a15441a90b8408d6de9b4a42%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0&sdata=Deimw7DNAWRCYmrRBaZwI3CsvPMulx%2BOe5u%2FgbiyyVQ%3D&reserved=0>, an advisory body set up by the Government, is undertaking a review into bias in algorithmic decision making. They are looking at this topic both at a general level, and also as it applies directly to four particular sectors. These sectors are financial services, crime and justice, local government, and recruitment. The questions in the consultation focus on four areas:


  1.  The use of algorithmic tools.
  2.  Bias identification and mitigation.
  3.  Public engagement.
  4.  Regulation and governance.

The Turing is looking to put together a submission drawing on the expertise of its university network.
