Dear all
Please see details below of a Seminar, which may be of interest to you. There is no need to book.
March 21 Dr Kaska Porayska-Pomsta (London Knowledge Lab, UCL). 12.00-13.00. B32/2097
Title: Artificial Intelligence and Social Inclusion: how automating human decision-making can be empowering to all
What is your talk about? Artificial Intelligence (AI) receives a lot of press, both for its potential to tackle social challenges and for the perceived threat that it poses to human identity and autonomy. This talk will examine how AI, especially as applied in Education and open learner modelling approaches, offers a 'mirror' on the biases emerging from our intellectual and empirical limitations. Diversity is needed to mitigate against biases becoming inbuilt into systems.
What are the key messages of your talk? AI exposes our pre-existent socio-cultural biases which hinder social inclusion, while also providing rigorous means for examining those biases and effectuating positive change.
What are the implications for practice or research from your talk? There are important possibilities for how AI can be used successfully in learning contexts and as a research tool to interrogate complex social questions.
Best wishes
Susan
