[Turing-Southampton] Love Data Week Events @ Southampton

The official launch of Turing at Southampton on Monday 11th February falls in international Love Data week (11-15 February). To further celebrate data at the University of Southampton, the Research Data team based in the Library have organised a series of lunchtime talks on the week's themes:

*         data in everyday life

*         data justice, and

*         open data

On Tuesday 12 February, Alison Knight (Legal Services and Web Science Institute) is exploring data justice and asking Can privacy still exist in an age of datafication?<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/55409726985>

On Wednesday 13 February, Professor Ros Edwards (Social Sciences) will be talking about her recent research on a breadth-and-depth methodology for re-using small-scales data sets to create 'big qual' data studies in the social sciences: Big data, qualitative style<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/55408598610>.

Chris Gutteridge, an award winning member of iSolutions and creator of the Open Data Service at the University, will be posing the provocative statement:  'There is no such thing as open data'<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/55411355857> on Thursday 14 February and arguing that, rather than seeking perfection in a few open datasets, instead, we should concentrate on removing barriers to data.
