[Turing-Southampton] CGTA inaugural event | 18-19 September

This is a reminder that the inaugural event to celebrate the opening of the new Centre for Geometry, Topology, and Applications will take place on Tuesday - Wednesday, 18-19 September. All talks will take place in 54/4011 (4A),  Level 4 of the  Mathematics building.

The mission of the Centre is to support and promote exciting
new research within these areas and in their interaction with other
fields of mathematics and science.

A summary of the programme is as follows:


10:00 - 11:00 Ulrike Tillmann (Oxford) Classifying commutativity
11:30 - 12:30 Guoliang Yu (Texas A&M) The Novikov conjecture and groups of volume preserving diffeomorphisms

14:30 - 15:30 Karen Vogtmann (Warwick) Spaces of finite metric graphs
16:00 - 17:00 Nigel Higson (Penn State) Noncommutative geometry and group representations

Wednesday 19 September
10:00 - 11:00 Sayan Mukherjee (Duke) How Many Directions Determine a Shape
11:30 - 12:30 Kathryn Hess (EPFL) Topological characterization of neuron morphologies

The talks are aimed at non-specialists.
