Our Data Study Groups are intensive five day "collaborative hackathons", which bring together researchers, data practitioners, and industry representatives to work together on data science challenges posed by partner organisations. Working together in multi-disciplinary teams, the aim is to encourage collaboration while working on real-world problems and datasets. The challenges for this event are:


  *   Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) - Seeing the unseen: Interrogating cellular-level response to hazardous materials
  *   Imperial College London Statistics - Developing data science tools for improving enterprise cyber-security
  *   MedImmune - Machine learning for enhanced understanding in cell culture bioprocess development
  *   National Cyber Security Centre - Capturing the function of websites
  *   NATS - Next-generation trajectory prediction for air traffic control
  *   PlayerLens - Player Pathways: Understanding career paths that deliver success for professional football players and clubs
  *   National Cyber Security Centre - Capturing the function of websites

The application form asks for details of your technical experience and experience working in collaborative groups. We have a wide definition of both so please be creative in your answers. If you think you can help our partners to answer these important questions, we want to hear from you!


The Institute will cover travel expenses (up to £200) and accommodation, and provide food and drink throughout the week. Social activities will also be arranged.
