Hi All,
As mentioned in the introductory meetings, we are planning on having a
SOWN workshop towards the end of this month or early November. This will
take place on either a Saturday or Sunday from around 11am until mid to
late afternoon. I have created a Doodle poll so people can list which
days suit them best. I will endeavour to schedule the workshop for the
most popular day but we need a minimum of SOWN 'veterans' to help run
the workshop.

A typical SOWN workshop consists of collectively working on various
aspects of SOWN. What we work on tends to focus on whatever issues are
pressing at the time. At the moment one of those things is reflashing
and reinstalling some of the SOWN[at]Home nodes so we have enough
available for deployments. We are also working towards rebuilding some
of our physical servers on our new Virtual Machine (VM) server. Both of
these tasks I think will be good for a first workshop of a year, as they
will help new people to get an overview of what SOWN does and how it
works in a reasonably hands-on way.
No prior knowledge is required as we will explain things as we go
along. If you are new person coming to the workshop, please feel free
to tell me or others if we are explaining things too quickly. It is
sometimes difficult to appreciate how much you may have learnt over time
and how much time it took to understand it yourself.
Anyway, once I have a decent number of responses to the Doodle poll, I
will send round another email confirming the date and location of the
workshop. It is likely to be either the Zepler CLS room we also use for
Thursday meetings or the Zepler level 3 computing labs.
Regards
David Newman
