If your name is not on the above list (or I've got your name wrong!) and you'd like to take an exam, you must contact me before Monday 16th November, otherwise you cannot take an exam on the 7th December. You can email your application form to my university email address hk1g10 at soton.ac.uk , or speak to me this evening during the construction session. If you haven't already done so, you must also pay for your exam at www.rsgb.org/exampay<http://www.rsgb.org/exampay> , the exam centre number is 10-466/B.
This evening from 6pm-8pm we shall be getting through the practical requirements for the exam. If at all possible you should turn up for the duration of this session so that we can have everything signed off. If you own a soldering iron, tool kit and/or an oscilloscope with scope probes, it would be of great assistance if you could bring these along.
For the majority of foundation candidates, all that remains is to do the HF section (setting up, tuning and operating), and also tuning of a VHF dipole. A couple of people still need to do morse code and VHF operation too.
Intermediate candidates need to complete their VFO kits, soldering them up and demonstrating that they work and can be tuned. They must also wire a UK mains plug and solder a connector onto a coaxial cable. These things can take a lot of time to complete (especially the VFO kits) and we may run out of time today. Should this be the case then I will organise another practical session, most likely on Thursday 26th November, however I would suggest that you try to complete the practical in your own time where possible. The level 2 labs in Zepler are open on Wednesday afternoons for anybody to use for their own projects. Scopes, soldering kit, basic components and power supplies are provided there.
I will be bringing a checklist along so that we can keep a tab on which sections people have completed. If you cannot come along this evening, please contact me and we can arrange an alternative time (including weekends) to complete the practicals. It is preferable to have all the practical assessment completed before the application deadline.
73s,
Henry (M0HWY)
