[Sociam-soton] human-extended machine cognition

Hi All,
This is the paper I mentioned in this morning's SOCIAM meeting. It's primarily aimed at a philosophical audience, but the concept of human-extended machine cognition is one that is relevant to work on social machines.

This is a SOCIAM paper that has gone to Artificial Intelligence. The core claim is that human agents can, on occasion, form part of the physical machinery that realize instances of machine intelligence. From the mechanistic view of social machines, such systems count as a form of social machine.
