Please note that we will be a bit tight in the room we have, which is fixed boardroom style.

Dear Colleague,

On Thursday 12th June the University of Southampton will be running "A Celebration of Web Science - past, present and future" at The Royal Society, London. This will mark 10 years of Web Science research activity at Southampton, stretching across Computer Science, Digital Humanities and Digital Sociology.

As part of this celebration, the SOCIAM project is organising a small invitation-only event for our partners and colleagues to showcase the project's achievements to date and to build on and explore mutual areas of interest going forward.

The event will run from 10:30-12:30 and will include an opening welcome by Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt (SOCIAM Project Lead) and short presentations of research from the project's research team from Southampton, Edinburgh and Oxford, covering the project's six main research themes (Social Computation, Curated Data, Privacy, Trust and Accountability, Interaction, Social Machine Implementations, Social Machine Observatory).

We would be delighted if you would be able to join us. Following this, you would be most welcome to join us for an afternoon of presentations and discussions, during which the University of Southampton's Web Science Institute will be launched.  There will be keynote talks from JP Rangaswami (Chief Scientist at Salesforce.com<http://salesforce.com/>), Richard Susskind OBE (author, speaker and IT Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales) and a panel-led discussion where Institute Directors Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt and Professor Dame Wendy Hall will be joined by Professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Liam Maxwell (Chief Technology Officer, HM Government).  This will be followed by a drinks reception.

If you are able to participate in the SOCIAM event please let me know ASAP, indicating if you are also able to join us in the afternoon.  I will then be able to arrange for you to be registered for this.
