Notes from 21/1 Meeting
Alistair Sackley from Hampshire Constabulary attended. He had met with Luc, Kieron and Davide to discuss Davide's research project over the next 3 months looking at crime data. There is a clear timeline of work and meetings. Nigel suggested connecting Antonio Penta into this work.
Workplan discussed in detail:
5.2 Social Machines in Policing: Davide's work contributing to this.
5.1 Social Machines in Health: Max asked to lead on developing a short Position Paper on health and well-being for social machines.
4.1 Genus & Species of Interaction: Max gave a presentation of the description and classification of the Rep Grids and Histories. Dan looking to map his work on people's needs, intentions and actions into Max's work. Nigel would like this to quite rapidly boil down to a description that is more succinct, describing some of the social machines we've looked at and producing a paper out of it.
Eleanor asked to lead on formulating the paper on "Classification of Social Machines" with the aim of tabling this at the WWW Social Machines Workshop.
1.1 Design through Interaction: A conversation needs to be established with Edinburgh.
6.2 Observation of Social Machines: Les, Thanassis, Ian, Ramine all working in this space. LifeGuide work to be looked at. Could argue that crime analytics work is part of this workpackage. Kieron said that the PASSIE proposal has similar aims - they are looking at collective awareness platforms to drive social innovation. Zooniverse case study should be looked at and we need to get this resource going with Chris Lintott from Oxford (Ramine's methodology work also fits into this). Should also think about Wikipedia and some of the DTC students could look at this. Michael Yip's work on dark social machines also relevant in the context of crime as a new exemplar for the Web Observatory.
Many thanks
Susan
