They were talking about vwire which is their system for recording the sorting of images. They record the changing XY locations of photographs as theya re sorted and then perform PCA and other analyses on the sorts produced. What I thought was of interest to us was that they record snapshots of the process so that you can return to earlier visual sorts, and you can also look at how other people have sorted.
