[Patina] Patina Scenario

Here is my scenario for discussion on Wednesday:

1. This takes place in a site hut next to an excavation. It is envisaged that the person undertaking the modelling is frequently taking a laptop, or other device, into the field as the scenario develops.
2. Start software that records key strokes and mouse movements
3. Start 3ds max modelling software
4. Begin to model building
5. Attribute actions taken in the software with comments whenever appropriate for example " I used this style of roof because of x piece of information"; enable linking of these comments to external data
6. As you interact with other data on the computer and in the field these interactions are recorded and associated to the modelling that is happening at the same time
7. Enable playback of the modelling processes and of the other interactions, scrubbing through thumbnails of progress
8. As modelling develops continuously log specific geometric and other modifiers within the software e.g. choices about how tall an element should be.
9. Enable interaction with the model via these modifiers - i.e. be able to pivot on these modifiers. For example, identify the stage at which a column took on its final proportions and jump to that instance of the column geometry
10. Enable new branching modelling processes to start and be recorded e.g. jump to the column geometry and then choose to change it
11. Continue modelling and recording

Much of this relates to conversations that Tom and I have had so much will be in common with his research interests. I am particularly interested in the combination of active (i.e. attribution of model stages with descriptions) and passive (i.e. logging of modelling process) approaches and how these can be combined in the interpretation of the model.

I am also aware it is rather a specific scenario and not therefore of general use in the project under a broad fieldwork heading but I tink it might start us thinking in the right direction.

Cheers,

Graeme
