PPTP has been completely removed from iOS 10 and macOS 10.12 Sierra.

To replace it, there are 2 alternatives available to you:

1. Go to https://globalprotect.soton.ac.uk, login with your
University credentials and download, install and run the app you can
get there. You need to give it "globalprotect.soton.ac.uk" as the
server name, and your University credentials.
(If you decide to remove it, run the installer again and just tick
the "Uninstall" option.)

OR

2. Create a new VPN connection yourself. The settings are:
Type: "IPSec" or "Cisco IPSec" (on iOS or macOS respectively)
Hostname: globalprotect.soton.ac.uk
Username and password: your University credentials (not your ECS
ones)
Secret: soton
Group: soton

Users who are members of ECS will get a service equivalent to using
the main ECS VPN service.
Users who are not members of ECS will get a service equivalent to
using the iSolutions VPN service.

(For some reason I haven't yet fixed, option 2 won't pass data from
VPN connections initiated *within* the ECS wired network. But that's
a pretty pointless thing to do anyway, as you are already inside the
ECS network to start with. It works fine from Eduroam or anywhere
else.)

Cheers,

HI so - there’s a doc here about VPN not working.
not a problem with staffvpn.ecs - which is great
any reason not to keep using this trusty resource?
(so nice not to have to use an app - just the drop down configuration)
or has pptp been way deprecated or?
