Charging off 5W would he slow - but not necessarily useless. A useful trick Dder once showed me was that you can run a MacBook off a 12V power supply using the now unavailable 24V airplane charger. It does not charge the MacBook but it stops it discharging with use. This is really useful if you spend lots of time in a car or campervan without access to 240V supplies e.g at a festival!<br>

The MacBook comes with a 29W USB-C charger. Your usual USB power supplies are only 5W, or at most 12W in the case of newer iPad models. It would take one a *very* long time to charge a MacBook at 5W.<br>
