It had already had one sulk about freezing programmes due to a lack of resources, and then I had some display corruption -- based around windows not scanlines, so I'm guessing drivers not hardware. Soon after that it suddenly threw up the pick-a-user screen I logged back in and tried to start firefox but it wouldn't as it was already running. Creepiest of all, I heard the facebook new-message sound effect as someone messaged me. Firefox was still running but I had no way to get back to it. I killed it from the command line and then could start firefox and then I tried to return to what I had been doing, but two more incidents of throwing me back to the "pick a user" screen and I gave up and did a hard reset.
