There is more than cloud service out there now that gives you unlimited 
storage for *photos* for free.
So you can offload all the photos there.

How much of the music do you listen to on your MacBook? I have my main 
iTunes setup (where I sync devices) on a Mac mini at home (with the 
iTunes folder on a NAS array), and use iTunes Match (£26 per year or 
something similar) so I can have what music I actually want to listen to 
on my MacBook, without having to store everything. Just pull it from the 
cloud as needed.

Otherwise, a big fat USB stick sounds possible, but won't you lose it? :-)
