Ok - 29W is not so big - my current MacBook Air transformer is 45W , so presumably this is lighter.

Charging off 5W would he slow - but not necessarily useless. A useful trick Dder once showed me was that you can run a MacBook off a 12V power supply using the now unavailable 24V airplane charger. It does not charge the MacBook but it stops it discharging with use. This is really useful if you spend lots of time in a car or campervan without access to 240V supplies e.g at a festival!

The MacBook comes with a 29W USB-C charger. Your usual USB power supplies are only 5W, or at most 12W in the case of newer iPad models. It would take one a *very* long time to charge a MacBook at 5W.

But presumably that means an enormous heavy transformer, which rather

Yes, the new MacBooks are charged over USB-C.

USB-C can carry 100W, so in theory lots of things could run off USB-C in
the future. It¹s enough power to run a 50² TV.

I saw a few reviews suggesting that the CPU power would be a downgrade

I¹m not sure that CPU speed is ever an issue for the sort of activities
I undertake its usually been disk speed, and even that seems to have
been an insignificant problem since I got SSD or hybrid disks.

ALSO
Still slightly worried about the single USB C slot. In effect I have
to always remember to carry around some extra device in order to charge
my iPhone from my PC. when its charging?

And Finally.
It would be nice if they produced a PC that could be charged from a USB
supply as an iPad can! I presume this is not the case here?

Any thoughts.?

Subject: [OSX-Users] Re: New 2015 MacBook

All models have 8GB RAM.

256GB ssd and 1.1GHz cpu = £902
256GB ssd and 1.3GHz cpu = £1074

512GB ssd and 1.2GHz cpu = £1117
512GB ssd and 1.3GHz cpu = £1220

Then you'll want an AV multiport adapter (either HDMI or VGA version) =
£65
That provides a USB-C socket (so you can charge while showing a
presentation), normal USB, and either HDMI or VGA.

So top-of-the-range = £1285 for the package. But I'm not convinced the
1.2GHz->1.3GHz upgrade is worth having, so you could knock roughly £100
off that.

All prices include VAT.

One thing I have noticed is quite how fast the SSD is. Installing my
30GB system image from a USB disk takes 3 minutes, compared to 6 minutes
for a MacBook Pro Retina and over 20 minutes for a "spinning rust"
disk-based Mac.

Hope that helps,
Jules.
