[OSX-Users] working offline with mail.app

Anybody out there who understands working offline with Mail.app? (currently using v7.0 on OS X 10.9.0 and the soton Exchange server)

Yesterday morning I synced my account with the server, put my it offline, and off I went for a day travelling offline. I proudly dealt with about 700 messages (including replying, filing in folders, deleting, removing attachments). It appears that the emails I sent offline were duly delivered as soon as I came online again. But all the messages I had filed away and removed, all of sudden reappeared back in my Inbox. Argh!! I am appalled! A day’s work gone!

I’m reasonably sure that emailing offline has worked for me in the past, so perhaps I did something wrong yesterday. The one thing I can think of is interference with the Exchange server from my iPhone. Is that possible? Alternatively, I might have hit “sync all accounts” when I got back online (I am not sure I did) before the offline changes were committed to se server, and this might have brought the original state from the server back to Mail.app. Really? (If that is the case, I think “sync account” may be a misnomer, it should be “restore from server”).

I plan to investigate this a little bit more, but if anybody has a working understanding of this, I’d be pleased to hear.

Cheers,
\vs
