What happens if you change it so the grab format is PNG? I use PNG and I 
don't get this problem.
If I built your Mac, you will find a System Preference (right at the 
bottom) with a logo of a letter "S" and the name "Secrets". Open that, 
go to "Grab" and change the file type for screen captures to PNG (which 
is lossless and hence better for accurate screen captures anyway).

Then see if Preview can cope with that any better. I haven't seen your 
problem myself at all.

P.S. I assume you're grabbing with Cmd+Shift+4, then using Space to 
toggle between grabbing an area and grabbing a window. This saves a 
file. Add Ctrl to the mix to save to the clipboard instead of a file.
