Got to play with a retina mac yesterday. Honestly, i didn't really notice the screen.
What i noticed is that after using an 11 for so long the 15 seemed HUGE - but surprisingly not heavy.
It's 4.5lbs (so 2k) and that sounds heavy after a 2lb Air - but in the hands it didn't feel much more heavy than the 13 air.
I know it IS but it doesn't feel it. And it is noticeably thinner than the current macbook pros.
The screen is also non-glarey - maybe the way they've done the layers for the lcd's - but it is not at all what the 27inch display is like for instance with glass glare.
It's an elegant design, and pretty peppy to boost. That there is a 756gig drive available for it is also pretty rad.
That it will take one more dongle in the bag to plug into ethernet - oh well - we all carry a vga and dvi already - and i'm also carrying a usb ethernet dongle. the sudden difference would be nil.
I'm not sure that even wtih all that loveliness i'm ready to abandon the minimalist glory of the 11, but just wanted to say it doesn't seem like it would be AS radical a departure as i thought it might be to move to the 15. If you're curious it's definitely worth the trip to an apple store. that will have zero in stock for sale (which may be a good thing for impulse buys) but WILL let one open and close the lid, pick it up, poke it, etc.
The lust in some of the Apple employee's eyes was palpable.
I mention these points only as some folks may be contemplating year end budget spends.
