dear fellow mac nerds,
most of you saw this on top of hn today, but it was very interesting.
Dynamic Pager causing apps to operate sluggishly : Something is deeply broken in OS X Memory Management
http://workstuff.tumblr.com/post/20464780085/something-is-deeply-broken-in-os-x-memory-management
i decided to give it a go on a spare machine and i noticed the Apple Mail (which is a total bear because I have over 100K emails) responds completely differently when the dynamic pager is turned off as described by the blog post -- and becomes slow again when I turn it back on.
Anyway YMMV, but for those of you that are adventurous may wish to tinker. (My machine in question is has 16GB of RAM and a fairly old SSD).
No kernel panics yet, and I'm running my arsenal of 2 VMs (OS X and Ubuntu) and things are in fact more responsive.
as usual TINKER CAREFULLY :)
Cheers
Max
