So far, no problems, but might depend on whatever other firewalls you are behind?

That might also explain your VPN not working. When I was in Ulster, their policy was to block pretty much everything, including OUTGOING traffic to a VPN. Seemed like over kill to me, but the only way around was either to fill in a form, or resort to ssh tunnelling.
