[OSX-Users] backing up while on road away from time capsule

What's a strategy for maintaining a time machine back up while on the road?

I used to just back up the laptop to a drive but of late have been using wireless timecapsule at home

wondering what to do when travelling for considerable chunks? 

is there a way to move elegantly between an external drive and a Timecapsule?
