I use the 'Keychain status' menu bar icon as an easy way to lock the screen when I walk away from my desk.
(Enable it in keychain prefs.)

Since Lion it fails to lock the screen unless you've got Finder as the foreground application

I'd appreciate it if you passed this bug on to apple :)
