From what I can glean from a video of and article about it, it's a
thing you launch from your Dock (or a trackpad gesture, which is not
exactly discoverable*, and a four-fingered one at that!) that then shows
more things to launch in a fullscreen grid?
I'm not sure how this is more Mum-friendly than just having the program
pinned in the Dock in the first place (which also has a the huge
advantage of making the UI action for "get this program up on my screen"
the same if it was already running or not). Or just putting surplus
shortcuts on the desktop, if you have a Mum who runs a substantial set
of software.
What am I missing here?

* Specifically, if said Mum hasn't used the computer for a while, not
being tethered to the things every day, and has forgotten what exact
combination of fondling is required, there's no easy way to find out. It
may as well be a blinking DOS prompt in that regard.
