ya ya but that's the same with any apple hardware: it's always cheaper by
big degrees in the US. if we could all get our computers in the us and
bring them back i wonder if her majesty's revenues would be sad?

so, the denaro difference? that one kinda gets wiped off the map: nothing
new.

and if you haven't used an air, well, it's pretty sweet.

i have a near end of life 17inch lunch tray and a 13inch air, 2nd gen which
is starting to rumble, hence timing of this release.

Prior to that i had a 15mbp

The weight difference in travel - even the thinness in terms of pull an air
vs macbk out of packs for airport scanners - is just not to be sneezed at.
I had not appreciated how fatiguing the bigger machines are till going for
the 13 air.

The only time i travel with the 17 now is if i'm going to be away for long
periods and effectively need my desktop and that much screen real estate
and have no access to a large external monitor. those conditions are
decreasing.

A colleague at MIT keeps a second 27 inch monitor on his visitor table so
when folks come in they can demo off their laptops with that screen. It's
really nice. And very easy to do with the airs.

I hear ya about the higher res display, Tim, of the 15mpb. i was for that
reason hugely surprised about the numbers of folks delighted with 11's.
"how can you read web pages on that???" i queried.

almost makes 9" b&w screens hard to imagine...

think i'll be visiting an apple store soon to try to get a handle on these
screens.

v.pleased though about the chip upgrades - the last iteration really hadn't
touched the processor.
thanks for the feedback
