Even if a cloud provider says they'll provide "encryption" of your data, do you know what that entails? It might be stored encrypted on their drives, but how securely? Do you know they don't keep a copy of the keys? Or that their algorithm of choice isn't compromised?
If you genuinely care about your data being secure, the only way to do that safely is to encypt it yourself using known good tools to a standard you're satisifed with.
