This is the bit where I point to my nine-year-old Windows XP box that's 
still as fast as day one, and my four-year-old MacOS 10.4 laptop that's 
now unusably sluggish, isn't it? ;)

Seriously, I haven't seen an OS as prone to bogging down with time this 
bad since Windows 98. I think OS X mostly skips the reputation because 
the upgrades come fairly frequently and involve reinstalls (with partial 
copying of apps and data).
