If it's a known bug, they may well not contact you, indeed.
But at least 2 of the bugs I've filed have provoked a response within a 
few days, followed by another message after the next release has been 
made checking that they have actually solved the problem I had. Very 
good service in my book.

If you find a bug in Windows 7, there is *no* reporting channel at all. 
M$ are only even vaguely interested in bugs in products that aren't 
shipping yet.
