[OSX-Users] ordering ipads on university grants

Dear All,
I just had my order for an ipad rejected on the grounds that isolutions and/or finance
won't approve it since an ipad isn't on the list of approved mobile phone products and is classed as
an "unproven technology". Does anyone know of a way around this? 

Personally I would have thought that we could just say that ipads are large iphones and hence 
should be allowed. But is there a formal way to get finance to approve?
