Fair comment - but I'd argue that there's a section of people who want a souped up smartphone / browser thingie, and others who want a mini laptop. For the former, the iPad probably will compete (for browsing, and baring the flash caveat which *does* need fixing, it looks like the iPad will be better than most netbooks). But if you fall intro the latter camp (which I'd argue many of us would), then yeah - the iPad doesn't really cut it.

The thing is, you probably could have said something similar about a Playstation or XBox (dunno - how do they compare with a good, spec'd out PC???). Ironically, I bet a lot of games box owners also probably own a PC of some description or other.
The press (and Jobs, etc) have laid it on thick - granted, but for some people they are probably right. For everyone else though...
