Hang on, are we falling into the perennial "...it hasn't got what I would want so axiomatically it is crap..." type argument? The one we had when the MBAir came out... oh yeah, and when the iphone gen1 appeared?

You're focussing on hardware - and missing on the "experience". A handful of tablets (slates, tampons, whatever) were launched at CES, and so what? Apple realised people *liked* the iPhone experience, that print media is migrating to the "e" world, and that a lot of people want to be able to get media at home, check email, surf, and mebbie play games (because someone else is watching "Britain's lacking talent" on the big screen so the XBox is out of action. If you need a device to fit this niche, then now the's an iPad for that!

It will appeal to a lot of more people. More to the point, the inevitable sexier OS upgrade, more apps (and they will come) and Gen 2 with the bits you didn't know you needed, and it will appeal even more

Apple *do* have a handle (and momentum) on getting a large developer base to develop (largely pithy) apps that people will spend less money on than the cost of a pint. Give it a few months and you'll see apps we never thought of, but make the iPad a much sought-after device...

... and if not - hey, loads of choice of other toys out there with the hardware you want. Apples are not the only fruit... or was it Oranges??? ;)
