Faster? Feh. Half a GHz is plenty for anything shy of the grossly
inefficient idiocy of Google Wave (for which a Core 2 Duo still isn't
enough), but I can do more with it because I can install LaTeX,
Subversion, et. al.

I don't think this is supposed to compete with netbooks. Hell, a small
MacBook (or the Air, if weight matters more to you) probably defeats it
on that count, for the "will only consider non-hackintosh OS X machines"
crowd, since AIUI the iPad has already made itself too big to fit in
pockets.
