Yes, the D700 is FX (full frame). Overall I'm happy, but it does mean  
carrying much bigger lenses for the same field of view.

Main advantages IMHO are reduced DoF with fast primes and better high  
ISO performance, on the D3s for example ISO 3200 looks essentially  
noise free.

Sadly, decent "walkaround" type lenses, e.g. 18-200 aren't available  
for FX format yet. The nearest is the 24-120, which is not that good.  
Also, wide zooms are lacking, the only good full frame one (for any  
system) is the Nikon 14-24, which is very big and pretty expensive.
