I believe there was a demo recently (I thought at 26C3, but I can't
find it there) of passively sniffing 100MBit ethernet by
bringing up two adapters, and putting the Tx into one, and the Rx into
the other, and using capture software to munge them
back together. Doesn't (yet?) work on gigabit because the wiring is
different.
