[OSX-Users] iTunes artist listing

A "while" ago I made the mistake of letting my Mac update to iTunes
8.2.1, because I sometimes become susceptable to the delusion that
software improves over time.
One effect of this which has been annoying me is that the "Artist"
column in the playlist filters no longer lists artists which appear only
in compilations. I don't want to unset those tracks as being part of a
compilation as, frankly, they /are/, and I have reason to care about the
on-disk layout changes that that flag affects (it puts all the tracks in
a compilation CD in the same folder, which is what I want).
Anyone know if there's a checkbox buried somewhere that controls this
behaviour so that I don't have to keep resorting to the search box to
filter by the The Troggs, or if iTunes 9 (which Software Update won't
shut up about) unbreaks this without breaking anything else?
Phil
(I seem to have lost Party Shuffle at some point too, but I seem to
remember people saying that got swallowed up by the "Genius" online
Amazon-recommender-like thing.)
