Certainly don't attempt to install ffmpeg from MacPorts - last time I tried that, it told me I had to install 45 dependencies, including an old version of Perl. I went the way of building by hand and locating the required libraries when the installer complained. Fink I haven't used for years because they went about a year without updating it after OS X 10.5 came out, IIRC.
