uh? it was exactly my point that you can't do what Neil wanted with a  
single audio file, and in order to encode for different codecs you  
need different encodings; in fact one per codec. Given that, there are  
of course several ways to do it: your suggestion is fine, mine is best.

ps. Actually, for the quality viewpoint the best AAC encoder is  
Nero's, but I think it isn't available on Mac; for MP3 lame is top.
