Interesting...
The lock-ups seemed to be coming from userland not system processing.
Running System Monitor and watching the graphs that were generated
during freezes showed 100% CPU (not surprising, and so nor is the dire
battery life), but this was almost exclusively from User processes and
not System. A daemon gone bad ways?
Anyway, in the spirit of "well, I've tried everything else" I shut the
phone down, pulled the SIM card out, started it up again and watched for
freezes.
It still froze even without the SIM. I sighed.
Then I shut it down, put the SIM back in, turned it back on and pretty
much gave up trying to fix it.
And since then I've had (dare I say it) no lock-ups. In fact it's been
as smooth as houses. Some, y'know, really .. smoooth .. houses.
Anyway, if anyone else is stuck with such weird problems, maybe this
will help (YMMV as always).
JD.
