Connecting to eduroam seems to be a dream now. I have always had huge
problems at Kings College (where I am today) and now I know why!
Good Snow Leopard changes that I have noticed this morning
======
First of all, the "fan" wireless menubar icon is animated so that you
can see when the mac is scanning for networks.
Second, there is a new "fan + exclamation mark" icon that is shown
while the connection process is active. THis is particularly useful
for slow and unresponsive networks or authentication servers.
Thirdly, the Network Preference pane now explicitly shows the period
that the 802.1X authentication is still underway.
Fourthly, the wording of the dialog box that warns you about the
security now actively encourages you to check the certificate to make
sure that it is appropriate.
All in all, without any tech support, I now know that my longstanding
eduroam problems at Kings come from the fact that it is taking
*several minutes* for the authentication to complete. Previously this
process was invisible and I had obviously been interrupting to soon
and trying different passwords and usernames.
