[OSX-Users] Time Capsule quandary

Hello,

I want to buy a backup solution for at home to keep data on my mac mini 
(photos, images, videos) and macbook (work stuff) safe. I plan to use 
Time Machine on both.

Should I just splash out on a Time Capsule, or is there a cheaper, 
better alternative?

Eg. I could just get a Seagate external HD, plug it into the mini and 
sync stuff from the MB onto the mini. Cheaper, but relies on me 
remembering to do the sync. So maybe go for one of those Western Digital 
My Book NAS drives - wireless like the Time Capsule but how does it compare?

Any advice appreciated!
