[OSX-Users] spotlight or mail piggy-ness?

Hi

i keep my mail on a separate volume, and any time i turn on spotlight
to index my apple mail, etc, it seems a couple hundred megs disappear
from the disk. When i look at the disk, though, spotlight doesn't
seem to be taking up that much space.

is there somewhere i should be poking to see what's going on to be ?

in the Mail folder itself, the fattest file seems to be Envelope Index

i "vacumed" the index and got about a meg back, but that's not a
great leap forward.

thanks

mc
